This week we introduce Members' Biographies
Will We Ever See This Again?
10th July 2026 - 4 comments
Following on from David Askham's suggested theme of 'One Picture , One Short Story' Ken Davis has written this short article based around one photograph.

This is a theme that we will develop over time if members send one photograph and their story or thoughts around it.

One picture - one story
By David Askham

Here is an appeal to members who think they have nothing to share with their fellows in our small, but special, LF society.

We all know how photography can bring back memories of long-forgotten events or travels. The mere sight of an old personal picture can often recall sights, scents and stories associated with a specific travel destination or family event.

Or, some small happening in your own back yard, snapped by an older family member or friend, serves to remind you of how you or an ancestor once lived. Memories flood back as you relive those special moments in your lives.

Invariably, travels unearth an interesting nugget of information, novel to you at the time, that could also be of interest to other photographers had it been shared. Please, rack your brains and share such incidents with other members.

Many serious experienced Leica photographers enjoy producing pictures for competitions. That becomes their main aim. So please tell us a little about your discoveries and techniques. In contrast, a huge majority of photographers are less ambitious and are content with their opportunistic and random efforts with a camera. Each and every one of you is welcome to share your experiences with others.

In recent times, starting with Covid-19 and its period of confinement, it brought home to me the importance of reviewing our old, long-forgotten photographs.

So what have I to offer, this week?

A Lone Swallow

During a random search of my picture library I chanced upon this photo of a young swallow, unusually perched on my television aerial. I was elated to rediscover this picture as you can find out by following this link.

Alan Humphries - My First Digital Camera
12th June 2026 - 9 comments
Alan takes us back 20 years to his first use of the digital photography media and his first camera.
Alan makes some very valid points about how many of us have followed the trend of staying up to date with technology, which has improved greatly, and when we look at the results from these earlier cameras they can still produce the results.

The 50th Anniversary Weekend
01st May 2026 - 2 comments
Our weekend at Stanton House Hotel was our 50th Anniversary and more than 50% of our members made it for all or part of the weekend.
Gareth has provided a summary of the events below and took the group picture, well done.
Hopefully members will provide Gareth with more photographs and we will write an article for the Newsletter and put a few more photographs on the website.
It was a very successful weekend in a beautiful location and an area where there is lots to see and do.
We would like to thank our conference organisers for arranging this successful 'do'.

The Ceiling of the Church of the Annunciation in Mdina - Tony Tarlton
17th April 2026 - 6 comments
This week Tony Tarlton tells us the story of a very old Leica related lens owned by the renowned Leica specialist, Malcolm Taylor. This lens that dates from the early years of the 20th Century has produced A3 size prints showing excellent detail that you can't see on a web sized version and its colour rendering is good too.
As Malcolm is a member of the Leica Society this photo will also feature in an article on their site.

Keith Walker - Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum
27th February 2026 - 6 comments
This week Keith Walker shows us a museum that will fascinate those of us interested in motor bikes but also tells us of the impressive individual after whom the museum is named - Sammy Miller. He was an incredibly successful rider in many trials and other competitions and is still alive at 90+ working in the museum!

Don Morley knows Sammy very well and has taken hundreds of photographs of him since the 1950s. Don has kindly sent a few photographs from his remaining stock so we can show you this accomplished racer adding to Keith's photographs of Sammy's museum. You'll find them after Keith's photographs

The Day I Thought My LEICA HAD DIED (David Askham 2026)
19th February 2026 - 3 comments
Occasionally, we receive a shock when our Leica cameras fail to operate. Usually it is something fairly simple that can be cured by temporarily removing and replacing the battery.

But what if that expedient fails to work; what next? That is the situation that David Askham found with his oldish Leica D-Lux, but it could apply to any relatively modern digital camera.

Find out how this unwelcome experience was resolved.
